Blackboard Announces 'New Learning Experience Platform' to Integrate Services

NEW YEAR, NEW USER EXPERIENCE: Nearly nine months since it was announced, Blackboard’s “K-12 New Learning Experience” platform is reaching users. This new system streamlines a slew of tools previously offered by the company and adds newer tools it recently acquired, covering services such as mass notifications, social media management, and course content. Along with the makeover are new names for many tools including xpLor (presumably pronounced “explore,” now re-branded as “Open Content”).

In a blog post, Blackboard’s Vice President of K-12 Strategy, Stephanie Weeks, offered this illustration as “a new way to describe how all of these technologies, workflows, integrations, and professional services come together to help schools and districts….”

Blackboard introduced plans for the “New Learning Experience” in the summer of 2015 (although it was greeted with some snark). That announcement offered some assurance that the company was attempting to integrate assets from the dozen companies it had acquired since 2014.
