Update to the EducationSuperhighway

Jul 24, 2012

HIGHWAY UPDATE: A couple great questions from readers last week after we wrote about the upcoming EducationSuperhighway.org's plan to measure the bandwidth in K-12 schools. 1) Who's funding this? No telecom company money is at work, says cofounder Evan Marwell. So far, the effort is bootstrapped by Marwell and other private individuals who "are keenly focused on ensuring that we do not represent the interests of anyone other than our schools."(Here's the backstory on the group.) 2) So who gets the data? Those who test will see their own speed results (much like this speedtest). Each school will get a report on its results; each district will receive its own district report and each state will get a state report. "We will also be publishing aggregate statistics and a map with some level of drill-down ability that is still to be determined," Marwell says.
