ShiftED: Silicon Valley is (trying!) to get its edu-act together. More than a few people have noticed that for this font of infotech, the Valley has lagged on school reform. Yes, we have some outstanding charters (go, Rocketship!) but such reforms don't touch the majority of kids in the Valley. A few folks are trying to do something about this: the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) is running a two-day conference, ShiftED, at Foothill College. Scott McNealy, former chairman of Sun Microsystems and founder of OER resource Curriki is keynoting, as is Bernie Trilling, who helped run the Oracle-funded ThinkQuest program. Note to Scott: no "hairball" quips allowed: Microsoft is underwriting the event.
