EDTECH HITS THE AIRWAVES: Great dialogue this past Sunday on using cellphones in the classroom, courtesy of Engaging Ed Radio. EdSurge tuned in for the premiere broadcast, but it surely won’t be the last. Featured guests included authors of Teaching Generation Text, Ms. Lisa Nielson (also of The Innovative Educator blog) and Ms. Willyn Webb.

The show touched a number of topics including practical cellphone integration even when schools ban cellphone use. For example, Ms. Webb snaps photos of the whiteboard during class brainstorms and posts to Flickr for students to access later. This provides a persistent learning space for reflection between classes and provides a launchpad for consistent engagement in future classes. Students missing deadlines? Put out a public Google calendar with important dates that students can synch with their cellphone calendars.
