Edmodocon 2011 Rocks

Aug 17, 2011

EdmodoCon rocks: Big turnout--probably close to 2,000--for Edmodo's first online conference, held last week. And they stayed, averaging more than four hours apiece! (Aw, you missed it? Well, thanks-be-to Vint Cerf, here's the replay.) Australian teachers made a fabulous appearance, led by Herietta Miller of Sydney, who deftly uses both Edmodo and Glogster to lead her 5th year students on a merry jaunt through English literature from poetry to Victorian and classical literature. Teacher Carol Anne McGuire showed how she mashes up music (Apple GarageBand) and Edmodo in her empowering musical collaboration project, Rock Our World. Finally, the ideas of gamification grabbed a lot of eyeballs, particularly the session on "gamifying your classroom" led by 10th grade language arts teacher, Hyle Daley. Edmodo is getting a piece of the action, too: badges are a spanking new feature there, especially badges that teachers can share with one another. Many thanks to EdSurge friend, Kevin Lee for these contributions.
