S'Cool Tools of the Week: College Match Tool, Shape of Life, ScribeSense

Aug 2, 2015

TOO COOL (PERFECT FOR SCHOOL): We've got our favorite edtech teacher and administrator tools for the week right here, as highlighted in our Instruct newsletter. By the way--got a favorite S’Cool Tool you like to use? We would love to hear and share your recommendations! If you’ve got a tool that makes you or your students sing from the proverbial mountaintops, fill out this form to let us know. It might just get featured!

Our tools of the week are:

Free! Those “top 100” college lists can be fun to read but they aren’t much help to students looking for what university will fit them. Among the tools that can help: Parchment’s free College Match tool lets students upload their credentials, grades and interests and then College Match will aim to deliver the names of likely matches. (Keep in mind: users must be age 13 and up.) So now, the only question that remains--East Coast or West Coast?

Free! Attention science teachers: Shape of Life is a series of short classroom videos that illustrate the evolution of the animal kingdom on planet earth, from the beginning of time until now. The site includes lesson plans to use in tandem with the videos, and other supplemental resources to learn more about flatworms, sponges, and annelids. (Oh my!)

Freemium: Write this down--literally. ScribeSense is an online, subscription-based, test grading service for teachers that grades open-ended test or homework questions. Teachers scan and email students’ completed tests, and ScribeSense provides a detailed grade report with rapid turnaround. If you’re curious to see what teachers think of it, check out these reviews on our EdSurge Index.
