Jul 8, 2015

KA’CHING: US edtech raised $240.2M in June 2015, according to analysis by EdSurge. The funding was spread across 22 different deals; at least 33 unique investors participated.

Udemy leads the way in June funding with its $65M in Series D led by Stripes Group with participation from previous investors Norwest Venture Partners and Insight Venture Partners. The company has been scaling both revenues and operations. Since raising $32 million last May, Udemy says it has increased revenues by 200 percent, grown its headcount from 55 to 160 employees, moved into a new headquarter in San Francisco’s SOMA district, and opened a new office in Dublin, Ireland.

Other big winners included $45M in Series D money to Duolingo, which boasts over 100 million users of its language learning content. Boulder-based Sphero also brought in $45M in funding to scale its interactive toy hardware. Rounding out the month’s top deals is another toy hardware startup, LittleBits, which scored $44.2M in Series B funding to expand its product offerings and launch a subscription service.
