How a Fourteen-Year-Old Hacked His School’s Computers

Apr 10, 2015

PRANK OR CYBERCRIME? Is your last name your computer password? You might want to change that. Administrators at Paul R. Smith Middle School in Holiday, Florida, are “in the process” of changing the password for the school’s administrative account--which was previously a teacher’s last name--after an eighth-grader watched a teacher type it in and successfully hacked into the system.

What did 14-year-old Domanik Green do once logged into the computer? He paid no mind to the encrypted questions to the FCAT, or Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, and instead set a picture of two men kissing as the background on one teacher’s computer “to annoy him,” Green explains. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Green has been suspended from school and charged with unauthorized access--a felony crime--for his actions.
