edX Settles Disability Lawsuit in Deal With DOJ

Apr 6, 2015

NOT ‘OPEN’ ENOUGH: edX has vowed to make its MOOC platform more accessible for students with disabilities, after settling a lawsuit filed by The National Association of the Deaf accusing the nonprofit of violating the Americans With Disabilities Act by failing to provide closed captioning in their online material, which includes MOOCs and podcasts. In a four-year agreement with the US Department of Justice, edX will make a number of commitments to make its MOOCs more accessible, including providing synchronized transcripts, controls accessible on a keyboard, and screen reader support.
