Only 16.3% See MOOCs as Sustainable, Finds Babson Survey

Feb 5, 2015

HARD OUT HERE FOR A MOOC: 5.2 million more students took an online course in 2013 than in 2012, a 3.7% increase year-to-year--the slowest growth rate yet, according to the 12th annual survey of online learning from the Babson Survey Research Group and Pearson. The survey polled 2,800 academic leaders, and found that while 70.8% report online learning as essential to long-term strategy, distrust of lasting legitimacy of MOOC degrees still prevails: only 27.6% of respondents said their faculty “accept the value and legitimacy of online education.” More in the infographic, and insights from Inside Higher Ed.
