HackReactor Co-Founder Sees Tech Education Replacing Universities

Dec 19, 2014

NEW YEAR, NEW EDUCATION: Are students today looking for educational outcomes that universities are unequipped and unwilling to provide? Shawn Drost, co-founder of Hack Reactor, says yes on TechCrunch, arguing that tech-ed programs like MOOCs and coding bootcamps address a shift in higher education’s goal when they advertise student ROI over “unbridled learning for learning’s sake.”

He ends with a prophecy that students of college age will increasingly source their higher education from tech companies, which will focus on quantified student outcomes and hybrid online/offline learning settings, over universities. Looks like Drost has some ambitious New Year’s Resolutions for Hack Reactor.
