1,200 Girls Who Can Code

GROWING UP: On December 15, the nonprofit Girls Who Code announced an expansion for 2015. Its seven week summer immersion program will expand from 19 programs providing computer science education to 375 girls to 60 programs reaching 1,200 girls.

Founded in 2012, the free program offers young women computer science classes, field trips to companies and mentorship from industry professionals. Sponsored by dozens of corporate partners including Google, Goldman Sachs, COVERGIRL and Georgetown University, the nonprofit will expand its programs in Boston, Miami, New York City, Seattle and the Bay Area, and offer new programs in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, DC this summer.
