Flashnotes Raises Series B to Let Students Buy and Sell Study Material, Partners With Cengage Learning

Sep 11, 2014

FLASHNOTES: An undisclosed sum to Boston, MA-based Flashnotes.com in a Series B round led by textbook publisher Cengage Learning, joined by Lazerow Ventures, Atlas Venture, KAHM Capital, Softbank Capital, Stage One Ventures, Campus Agency, Lou Latiff and Michael Solomon, reports BostInno. After a $3.6 million Series A round in February, Flashnotes has disclosed raising $6.9 million since its founding in 2009.

Cengage Learning will integrate Flashnotes into its immersive learning platform, MindTap. Flashnotes enables students to buy and sell notes--which Flashnotes’ FAQ views as students’ own intellectual property, despite efforts by some universities to limit student note sharing. On the MindTap platform, educators will be able to activate and deactivate student ability to sell notes, a function which Flashnotes does not offer.
