California Governor, Jerry Brown Appeals Vergara Ruling

Sep 2, 2014

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU? California governor, Jerry Brown, is standing on the side of teachers. The New York Times reports that the Brown filed a one-page appeal to the Vergara v. California ruling that found teacher tenure to be unconstitutional. (The ruling was upheld in a final review by Los Angeles County Judge, Rolf Treu, on August 27.) Also appealing the ruling is Tom Torlakson, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction who is running for re-election. His opponent, Marshall Tuck, supports the ruling. More info from the Los Angeles Times on what Vergara means for this year's heated race. There will be national ramifications, too: Vergara has inspired a similar lawsuit in New York; other states may follow.
