Dept of Education Advocates Increased Transparency

Jul 28, 2014

DATA ON DATA: The U.S. Department of Education is issuing guidelines to help districts increase transparency around student data collection, if not directly strengthening regulation as called for by the Parent Coalition for Student Privacy.

On July 25, the U.S. Department of Education released “Transparency Best Practices for Schools and Districts,” offering guidance on how schools can better inform students and parents about the collection and usage of student data. Specific tips include parent access to the data collected about their students and an easily searchable school website.
