Sebastian Thrun: Udacity is 'Not a MOOC'

May 12, 2014

REVOLUTION RETRACTION: Ever since Sebastian Thrun called Udacity "a lousy product," he's been much more modest about his company's aims. "It's not a MOOC because we end up charging for it," he tells PandoDaily. But he's "confident" that the paid model offers a better learning experience, judging by completion rates that are reaching 60 percent. MOOCs are neither the panacea nor disruption in higher-ed as the media has hyped, Thrun states. University folks agree: In this Wall Street Journal piece, three higher-ed faculty say the real value of MOOCs is in reaching adult learners who have traditionally not been served by the higher education market.
