College Review Portal, Unigo, Acquired by EDPlus Holdings

May 6, 2014

UNIGO: EDPlus Holdings, a subsidiary of Aequitas Capital, has acquired NY-based Unigo, an online portal that offers college reviews, admission advice and counseling services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Unigo has over 250,000 crowdsourced reviews of over 6,500 colleges, along with 1,500 college counselors. The company also partners with media outlets like USA Today to publish college guides.

Unigo was founded in 2008 and supported by "angel investment, grants from The Gates Foundation as winners of the College Knowledge Challenge, and 7-figure VC investment from McGraw-Hill Education Ventures," founder Jordan Goldman tells EdSurge via email. The team will remain in New York as employees of EDPlus Holdings, which also owns ScholarshipExperts.com and +U--both of which will be rolled into Unigo.com.
