Charmed, I’m Sure

Citelighter, an edtech startup that helps students organize their research and writing, left the Big Apple for the charms of Baltimore. Saad Alam, CEO and co-founder and Lee Joki, fellow co-founder, moved to Betamore, a startup incubator, in October, with the rest of his team scheduled to arrive early next year. A $100,000 investment from Maryland TEDCO, backing from Baltimore-based angel investor John Cammack, and a growing local edtech ecosystem were all draws for Citelighter. As Alam shared, “Something very special is happening in Baltimore.”

Citelighter raised $850,000 in its first round, and is expected to raise an additional $1.2 million in its current round.
