Schoolzilla Breaks Loose

SET ME FREE, WHY DON'T CHA BABE? Schoolzilla, the data management platform that began within Aspire Public Schools in 2009, got its official launch this week as a for-profit company. That morphing was hardly a secret: in 2011, Schoolzilla began offering a service to help other schools turn their data--including academic strengths, weaknesses, attendance records and results from the California Standards Test (CST)--into user-friendly visualizations and sharable reports.

Since officially spinning out of Aspire, Schoolzilla has received an undisclosed amount of seed funding from NewSchools Venture Fund and Serious Change L.P. Lynzi Ziegenhagen, founder and CEO of Schoolzilla says the company is also applying for status as a "B Corp" (which has a "double bottom line.") Schoolzilla also now offers a premium data service. More details on the product here and company here.
