FAMILY AFFAIR: Some say that the iPad has become the best babysitter. (Dare we say it may be disrupting babysitting?) But a recent survey from the Center on Media and Human Development at Northwestern University, "Parenting in the Age of Digital Technology," suggests otherwise. Of the 2,326 parents of children up to 8 years old, 69% say devices and smartphones do not make parenting any easier. Within this group, 58% expressed concerns that devices can have a negative impact on children's social skills. And when it comes to looking for an educational activity, parents still much prefer books (62%) over tablets and mobile devices (10%). The survey offers plenty more insights into other uses of and attitudes towards technology for raising the youngins'.
