CK-12 iPad, Chrome Competition to 'Get Real'

Feb 20, 2013

CK-12 CHALLENGES STUDENTS TO 'GET REAL' COMPETITION: Nonprofit CK-12 already offers free "flex books" on a host of science, math and technology topics. Now executive director Neeru Khosla hopes to encourage students to move from absorbing those topics to demonstrating what they mean in real life. In return, she and CK-12 will showcase the best examples. Between now and April 15, CK-12 is running a contest to encourage students to "get real" by creating presentations that illustrate real world applications of concepts in Flex books. Here's a marvelous example of how to use congruent triangles to explain how the pyramids got built. (Of course National Geographic did that example. But hey, students are clever digital natives, right?)

CK-12 plans to showcase great examples on its website. And the students who create the three top presentations will win the devices they like (iPads, Chromebooks, Nooks, and so on) for themselves and their classrooms. Here are the details of the competition. (Here's the prize list.) May the most memorable projects prevail!
