Major Slip-ups for Desire2Learn and Coursera MOOC

WOOPSIES: A couple of high-profile slip-ups that made headlines this week: Desire2Learn, which has an estimated 11 percent of the higher-ed LMS market, suffered a major outage that affected "one in four of [its] clients." And a MOOC offered by George Tech via Coursera, titled "Fundamentals of Online Education: Planning and Application," crashed just one week in and was eventually suspended. GigaOM was quick to point out the irony. Forbes quotes Coursera co-founder Andrew Ng admitting that:

When someone first invented the book, someone had to invent the table of contents, the page numbers, the section headings...We're in the process of inventing those right now, and there will be missteps along the way.
