NewSchools Venture Fund Backs MasteryConnect

MasteryConnect: $1.1 million to Salt Lake City-based MasteryConnect, in a funding round led by NewSchools Venture Fund ($600K), with Learn Capital, Imagine K12 and other investors. MasteryConnect enables teachers to find and share formative assessments based on the Common Core. The company offers free and premium products. Its free online community for sharing assessments has reached teachers in 2,000 districts and 50 states. It's also created a free iPhone and Android app (100k+ downloads) that anyone can use to see the Common Core standards. NSVF chief operating officer, Gloria Lee, joins the board. The investment comes from NSVF's fourth fund, about a third of which is designated for supporting personalized learning tools.
