Writing Curriculum Consultant

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced literacy leader to support our work in building our middle school writing curriculum. Caliber is shifting from a school-specific writing curriculum loosely based on a writing workshop model, and transitioning to the MATCH Fishtank curriculum for the 2019-2020 school year. The Writing Consultant will work to synthesize and adapt MATCH Fishtank units to incorporate rigorous writing instruction and experiences. The Writing Consultant will work with School Leaders and the Head of Teaching and Learning to build an understanding of the current literacy context and expectations for transitioning to using the MATCH Fishtank curriculum. The Caliber Schools Network will complete this curriculum transition by the beginning of the 2019 -2020 school year. Thus, the primary work of rebuilding literacy units will occur during the summer of 2019, with the expectation of continued support throughout the 2019-2020 school year.


  • Work with School Leaders and the Head of Teaching and Learning to build an in-depth understanding of Caliber’s current literacy structure.
  • Work with School Leaders and the Head of Teaching and Learning to set goals for the new literacy curriculum.
  • Plan integrated units of writing instruction using MATCH fishtank as the core curriculum
  • Complete all unit plans and design of instructional materials by specified deadlines
  • Communicate frequently, effectively, and efficiently with all key stakeholders
  • Be prepared to share regular data reports regarding the progress and effectiveness of writing content
  • Remain organized, available, and prepared to share student achievement data against the writing content
  • Remote work is a possibility, in-person is preferred

  • 3 or more years of literacy coaching experience, including in-depth coaching of writing on Common Core Standards for 5th-9th grades
  • Proven record of pushing student achievement on Common Core Aligned Assessments
  • Experience merging literacy curricula (ideally including TCRWP and ThinkCerca content) while ensuring a seamless student experience
  • Experience creating rigorous student performance tasks
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and creating culturally relevant curricula
  • Experience working remotely or with low-touch support of immediate deadlines and work
  • Experience leading professional development and formally coaching teachers


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master’s Degree in Literacy Content or Curriculum Development is a plus
  • Valid California State Teaching Credential or equivalent and transferable teaching license from another state, preferred
