Job Description

We are a fun, flexible, kind, open-minded, multinational family of five looking for an amazing educator to join us as we embark on a 6-month adventure in Asia, Australasia and the South Pacific! We are no strangers to alternative ways of educating our children. For the past two years we’ve homeschooled our three children with the help of an amazing teacher and a small group of other families. But sadly our current teacher is not in a position to travel with us so we are looking for a new educator to help develop our childrens’ academic skills and love of learning while we travel the world. Our children are 8, 6 and 4 and they are very motivated, curious, easy-to-manage learners. We are very hands-on parents that take a strong interest in our children’s education so we would welcome the opportunity to partner with and support you as you develop and implement your teaching plan. Our plan is flexible and evolving, but we envision that ‘school’ will be in the mornings and afternoons will be reserved for exploring as a family. So you, the educator, will usually be free to do your own thing in the afternoons and weekends. While your primary responsibility will be teaching, we will also ask you to help with some travel planning (e.g. researching kid-friendly activities in our chosen destinations) and we may ask you, from time-to-time, to do some evening babysitting (e.g. if we are heading out for dinner) . We will provide you with your own separate accommodation wherever possible. Responsibilities

- Guide our rising 3rd grader, 1st grader and kindergartener through core subjects like math, reading, writing and, to a lesser degree, science, social studies and art

- Customize your teaching plan to our children’s level/interests

- Whenever possible, weave the culture, history and geography of the countries we are traveling in into your curriculum plan

- Identify the best materials (online and offline) to teach our children.

- Document and evaluate our children’s progress.

- Help us to research and organize kid-friendly activities in the countries we are visiting that will enable our children to mix with local children, learn about the local culture and just generally have fun

- Provide occasional evening babysitting (no more than twice a week)

- Periodic support with household duties (e.g. laundry, grocery shopping)

Ideal Candidate

You adore children, especially early elementary age, and you adore teaching. You have a very open-minded and creative approach to teaching that adapts to the needs and interests of the child. You are constantly looking for ways to make learning come alive and to make it feel relevant and interesting. You are very adaptable and able to change your plan on a dime if you see a child getting excited about a topic or losing interest. You believe in giving kids a lot of choice in their learning and in empowering them to manage their own education. You believe that developing skills like creativity, critical thinking, communication and EQ are at least as important as reading, writing and arithmetic. You are capable of teaching children of three different ages/abilities at the same time. You LOVE travel and adventure. You are tech-savvy and are always on the lookout for the most effective/engaging edtech tools. Most of all, you are warm, fun, kind, open-minded, reliable, well-organized, hard-working, flexible, patient, optimistic, passionate, intelligent, creative and a lot of fun!Qualifications & SkillsBachelor's degree or higher from a respected college or universityDemonstrated experience with and love of childrenDemonstrated passion for teachingDemonstrated love of and experience with travelingPrevious experience teaching K-4 preferred
