VP of People Operations

About the Role:

We are looking for a VP of People Ops to spearhead and prioritize the continued development of the ways in which we live our values and achieve our vision. This role will oversee the people functions of human resources and recruiting, alongside culture building, as we grow into an evolutionary organization. We are truly invested in the long term experience and growth of our team members, and we are looking for a business leader who understands the critical importance of human capital and intentionality required to cultivate an organization’s mission and values.

The ideal candidate will have managed human resources in a growing, mission driven company that strives to create a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. While experience in K-12 education technology is desirable, we are open to candidates from other fields. You can demonstrate understanding and experience with the complexities of balancing revenue and profitability, social impact, and the employee experience.

You will recruit talent to BRM and ensure that each of our team members, whether newer or experienced, has a defined path of continuous growth. You will help support and coach team members through challenging relationships and conflicts that arise from differing perspectives and priorities. You will continuously refine our people processes and systems that maintain the strength of our team culture and promote our core values of Empathy, Growth, Joyfulness, Collaboration and Equity.

This is not the typical leadership role and we are not a typical organization. What you’ll do:

There are two key dimensions to this role as we envision it: the talent and culture work and the operations — of which the work and priorities will ebb and flow in priority across the year.

Talent & Culture:

  • Act as a strategic partner to the CEO and the rest of the executive team to develop, communicate, and execute a holistic people strategy.
  • Create and implement people metrics and use this data to drive changes in our people strategy at both the team and individual level.
  • Develop a dynamic and engaging culture consistent with BRM’s vision & values that attracts, retains and develops top talent.
  • Work with the leadership team to design the organizational structure and craft hiring plans. You will build, lead and manage the recruiting team, to ensure that we have a strong talent pipeline.
  • Design and implement learning and development programs to engage, motivate, and improve our people, to unlock their potential, and help them grow in their careers. Including but not limited to designing and delivering company wide training and PD.
  • Create and maintain documentation around key work functions, providing training and mentoring support on areas where you are designated as subject matter expert.
  • In collaboration with team leads, design career paths for each department.
  • Alongside our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee identify strategies, partner across functions and levels, and help attract and retain underrepresented talent, and our Organizational Design committee to continuously evaluate and evolve the way we do work to drive deeper employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Embody and uphold our values, and ensure that they influence all key decisions and initiatives.

Operations:

  • Own HR operations. HR operations are the nuts and bolts of a well-run organization. You will own all of the systems, processes, and decisions related to these core areas of the business including payroll, benefits, and exit logistics.
  • Refine our systems for and provide exceptional onboarding and offboarding.
  • Collaborate with Co Founders to evolve our performance management and compensation structures, including the development and implementation of titling, levels, performance management and compensation across the whole company.
  • Grow and manage the People Operations team.

What you’ll need:

  • 3+ years of progressive people operations experience including experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale programs and practices— ideally, you've helped a company grow from 25 to 75+ people.
  • Understanding of people operations best practices and employment laws and regulations.
  • Acumen and executive presence to become a true business partner across the company.
  • Ability to challenge the team/organization while holding them accountable for their commitments.
  • Experience managing recruitment, including building out compensation plans for high performance and building out metrics.
  • A bias towards action and challenging the status quo. You don’t get bogged down by process. An ability to harness positivity to empower the team to achieve greatness.
  • An approachable demeanor that inspires trust and confidence from leaders and individual contributors.
