VP Marketing

Literably - San Francisco, California or Remote - Full time

Literably is a fast-growing edtech company on a mission to develop every child into a proficient reader. Our flagship product is an online elementary reading assessment. Using our product, K-8 students read aloud and answer questions on a device (Chromebook, iPad, laptop, desktop), and Literably generates key data for reading instruction that would otherwise be collected manually. This saves teachers enormous amounts of time and drives critical intervention decisions for young readers. We currently serve over 500 schools, including several of America’s largest school districts.

About the role: We are looking for Literably’s VP Marketing (and first full-time marketing hire) to report directly to our CEO. You will be the only marketer at Literably, so you must be excited to get your hands dirty and make things happen. You will set strategy, plan and run campaigns, manage the marketing stack, and report on the marketing funnel. As the company grows, you’ll build out a marketing team and - in the near term - you can loop in contractors to get stuff done. Note: If you’re an exceptional candidate earlier in your career, we are also open to hiring a Director of Marketing with the potential to grow to VP.

Responsibilities include:

Strategy: Intelligently prioritize marketing activities based on expected ROI.

Email: Spearhead efforts to reach potential customers directly via email.

Lead Nurturing: Develop campaigns to nurture leads towards a sales conversation.

Content: Develop blog posts, newsletters, articles, white papers, videos, and other materials to educate current and potential customers.

Website: Manage and improve Literably’s marketing site.

Events: Develop and execute an event strategy around webinars and conferences.

Reporting: Measure and clearly report on marketing initiatives and ROI.

Marketing Tech Stack: Manage and improve Literably’s martech stack.

Branding: Craft consistent and compelling brand and positioning.

Ideal Qualifications:

Experienced: Significant marketing experience, ideally scaling a K12 SaaS company.

Lead-Generating: Previous success consistently delivering qualified leads. Comfortable with a monthly lead commit.

Quantitative and Tech-Savvy: Comfortable running experiments across multiple channels, and accurately interpreting data to drive decision-making. Able to efficiently manage a marketing stack.

Content-minded: Great at producing marketing content (emails, websites, articles, etc).

Hands-On and Budget-Efficient: Willing and able to do the work yourself until growth justifies headcount. Willing and able to work effectively without a huge marketing budget.

Clear Communicator, Organized and Productive: You speak and write clearly and articulately. You work efficiently and effectively towards identified priorities.

Proactive: You propose new ideas, and execute quickly without being abrasive.

Good Attitude: A positive, friendly, patient and energetic attitude.

Strong Leader: Experience hiring and managing amazing marketers. Comfortable owning and leading a marketing function.

Remote-Friendly: Literably is a mostly remote company. We have employees in San Francisco, New York and Denver. You will need the ability to work productively in a remote environment.
