Position: Senior Vice President, Facilities Fund and Finance

Location: Flexible but Denver/Boulder, CO or Chicago, IL preferred

We are looking for a leader to manage CSGF’s $50M Facilities and Structured Finance Fund and provide expert support to our portfolio schools in the areas of finance and operations. Our ideal candidate is a former Chief Financial Officer or other senior leader in a high-performing school system with experience managing facilities and finance. The leader deeply understands—and has empathy for—the needs and challenges of our school leaders.

The Charter School Growth Fund (CSGF) is a nonprofit that grows the nation’s best charter schools. We are a venture philanthropy that identifies great schools, funds their expansion, and helps to increase their impact. Our portfolio includes over 60 charter school networks that operate almost 800 schools serving more than 320,000 students. We launched our third fund in 2015 and, ultimately, we think the schools we support will serve 1 million students.

We are looking for an accomplished leader to directly support schools in two areas:

  • Lead CSGF’s $50M Facilities and Structured Finance Fund and help our school networks solve facilities and working capital challenges, including the sourcing, structuring, and execution of investments. As this fund gets recycled, we expect to invest $125M over the next 10 years.
  • Manage the Finance and Operations practice that works directly with our schools and helps them grow with quality in these areas.

The Senior Vice President will manage two Associates to advance this work.

CSGF is an entrepreneurial workplace, meaning that our senior leaders need to combine deep functional expertise, the ability to manage complex projects, creativity in solving problems for portfolio members, and strong relationship management across a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The responsibilities of this role resemble those of a strategy consultant—provide strategic support, serve as a trusted thought partner, solve mission-critical problems—and those of an impact investor—source and structure deals, conduct due diligence, invest capital, and monitor investments:

  • Lead CSGF’s Facilities and Structured Finance Fund to meet annual and cumulative fund targets, including sourcing, structuring, and successfully investing over $15 million in 8+ transactions annually
  • Manage the Finance and Operations practice that provide solutions, insights and connections to portfolio members to help them grow with quality. The practice builds the community of finance and operations leaders in our portfolio, creates content to spread best practices, provides training and technical assistance, and invests in solutions to help our schools build capacity and innovate
  • Serve as a key strategic thought partner for charter executives and CSGF’s investment team to overcome facilities, finance and operations challenges
  • Partner with CSGF’s executive team to continually improve our support of charter school operators and lead the evolution of our Facility Fund strategy, including raising additional rounds of capital
  • Partner with key stakeholders to promote structural solutions to facilities challenges, including improving the access and affordability of commercial capital and enhancing public policy
  • Hire, develop and manage 2-3 team members

  • Deep commitment to CSGF’s mission
  • Eight plus years of work experience, preferably as a senior leader in a high-performing, public school system with experience in facilities and finance
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build relationships across diverse groups of stakeholders including charter school operators, lenders, policy makers, etc.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to hire and develop top talent
  • Strong project management experience that drives efficiency and excellence in all aspects of work
  • Ability to work seamlessly between high-level strategy and detail oriented work

We are focused on hiring and developing great people, giving them plenty of freedom and autonomy, and maintaining high expectations to help team members grow personally and professionally. In return, our team delivers high-quality work that increases our ability to find, fund, and deepen the impact of the highest performing public charter schools in the country. Our core values are:

  • Results. We work relentlessly to create efficient, measurable, and sustainable results. We strive for excellence and pursue our mission tenaciously. Ideally, you thrive working in a self-directed manner in a fluid environment where flexibility and tenacity are required.
  • Entrepreneurship. We embrace calculated risks and new approaches. We have an entrepreneurial spirit that welcomes innovation, diversity of ideas, and risk. We rely on you to question conventional wisdom and think independently.
  • Integrity. We are truthful, fair, and trustworthy in all aspects of our work. We hold ourselves and our partners to the highest ethical standards. We trust you will too.
  • Respect. We appreciate the challenges faced by education entrepreneurs and recognize the limits of our own knowledge. We understand that our ultimate success is dependent upon the achievements of our partners. Your humility will be key to building trusted and authentic relationships.
  • Teamwork. We value each of our team members as individuals but believe that we achieve the greatest results by working together. We willingly sacrifice individual interests and recognition for greater collective impact. We hope having fun at work is important to you and you enjoy being a team player.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and education. CSGF offers a very competitive compensation package and this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
