Vice President and General Manager, Workforce Development and Online Credentials

Mercy College invites applications and nominations for a Vice President and General Manager to oversee its new division of Workforce Development and Online Credentials. Research over the past year has shown that a majority of workers who have been displaced by the pandemic are looking for shorter term skills preparation. Right now, in the New York Metropolitan area, jobs are sitting open because employees lack the skills to fill them. Mercy is prepared to help employees fill that gap and, in April 2021, announced our intent to invest significantly over the next few years to create a new workforce development division. This division will be focused on shorter term certificates for those looking for preparation in very specific workforce skills, whether hard skills like software coding or soft skills like executive leadership or conflict resolution.

Mercy College is looking for a self-motivated, experienced and results-driven VP / General Manager, who will report to the President, to direct and manage the business activities of this new division and to develop and implement effective business strategies and programs. The VP / General Manager is responsible for all aspects of the start-up of a new division, including: hiring a team; development and oversight of a product roadmap and business plan to achieve positive revenue within 24 months of launch; oversight of marketing and student acquisition for the division; and development of partnerships to connect graduates with prospective employers.

The successful candidate will have a high level of energy, political savvy, drive and the personality necessary to achieve ambitious goals of this new division, as well as experience leading entrepreneurial programs or divisions focused on online workforce development or the EdTech industry.

This position may be located at any of the Mercy College campuses or office locations in Westchester (Dobbs Ferry or Tarrytown) or New York City (Manhattan or Bronx).

Responsibilities:

- Oversee the implementation of the revenue launch in this next fiscal year.

- Develop and oversee product roadmap and 5-year business plan to achieve positive revenue within 24-months of launch and up to 40 different certificate programs

- Develop and evaluate partnerships with online content providers or other third party vendors

- Provide oversight for academic subject matter experts and student outcomes

- Manage annual budgets of $25-50M and collaborate with the CFO to regularly forecast enrollments and revenues

- Oversee marketing and student acquisition for division programs, including development of strategies for direct-to-student acquisition and the development of corporate relationships

- Develop and oversee job placements program for graduates

- Build a team to achieve desired outcomes

- Articulate KPIs, resources allocation and team alignment to meet targets

- Provide regular updates to President and Board of Trustees of progress

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- Demonstrated abilities running a business or division of at least $25M, as well as demonstrated ability to develop and interpret financial data/plans and manage resources

- Demonstrated skills and experience in areas of online education, workforce development and product development

- Leadership experience appropriate to a senior leadership role in higher education)we welcome applications from individuals whose backgrounds and experiences may be nontraditional in higher education leadership)

- Strong leadership skills that promote integrity, creativity, innovation and growth, resilience and accountability

- Demonstrated unwavering commitment to academic excellence and equitable student outcomes

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, as well as demonstrated abilities at data-savvy storytelling

- Evidence of successful decision-making in a collaborate, data-driven environment

- Demonstrated internal and external relationship building skills

- Demonstrated abilities in all other areas outlined in the defined job responsibilities

- Advanced degree required
