UX Researcher

OpenMind - Remote - Full time

About OpenMind

In recent years, our society has become increasingly divided. Rather than appreciating our differences, all too often, people are viewing the world through an "us versus them" lens. OpenMind works to address these issues by translating the best behavioral science research into practicable, scalable, and evidence-based tools that equip people with the mindset and skillset to communicate and collaborate across differences. Our tools are built for use in many contexts, including workplaces, universities, and communities.

OpenMind is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that was co-founded by the social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, the author of the bestselling books The Righteous Mind and The Coddling of the American Mind. Since launching in 2017, our online program has reached more than 48,000 people in more than 1100 classrooms, as well as 150+ organizations and companies, across more than 30 countries.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced UX researcher to help us deepen our understanding of the people using our educational products. You will work closely with the Learning Solutions and Marketing teams to identify research questions, design and execute research projects to better understand user needs, and communicate your insights cross-functionally to help guide product decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Learning Solutions and Marketing teams, other researchers, and senior leadership to craft research questions.
  • Independently design and execute studies that are efficient and useful, using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies as appropriate.
  • Generate data-based insights to guide product development and strategic direction.
  • Communicate data-based insights and advocate for the user in cross-functional contexts.

Qualifications

  • Required BA/BS in Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field. Preference for MA/MS/PhD in a human behavior related field (HCI, Psychology, Sociology, Information Science, Economics, Political Science)
  • 3+ years experience in applied product research, including digital products.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative user research methodologies (e.g., interviews, focus groups, survey design, concept testing, co-design, etc.)
  • Experience working with higher education and K-12 educators as the end-users.

Why work with us

  • A Mission-Driven Culture — we practice what we preach, so we wear our values of intellectual humility, continuous improvement, and open-mindedness on our sleeves
  • Remote-First — OpenMind was founded as a remote-first organization, and we work hard to maintain a strong team culture across vast distances (our small crew is spread across six states and three countries)
  • Compensation — salary starting from $95,000, negotiable, commensurate with expertise and experience
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Other Benefits — employer-supported health, vision and dental plans, subsidized parental leave, 401(k) program (not matched), short- and long-term disability insurance, life and AD&D insurance, $1,000 annual professional development budget; more details here.

OpenMind is an equal employment opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin. As an organization firmly committed to bridging divides, it is important for us to build a team representative of the nation’s rich diversity.
