OPPORTUNITY

UPrep is hiring a Dean of Academics who is passionate about coaching and developing teachers to be their best for their scholars. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is a leader on their current campus, is a mission and values-driven leader committed to educational equity for all children, and is deeply aligned with the core values that drive our team and our organization at University Prep. Also, a leader who is “geeky” when it comes to academic content and has a robust understanding of standards aligned curriculum. Someone who is humble while remaining results-oriented: While bringing great experience in this work, this leader approaches each scholar, adult, project and/or challenge with a fresh perspective and a learner’s disposition. A leader who is ready to roll up your sleeves, because you know failure is not an option. An effective communicator with other leaders, teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders.

PRIORITIES

A successful first year in the Dean of Academics role will include:

  • Working closely with the Principal and full campus-based leadership team to create and maintain a warm, focused, engaging and achievement-oriented environment that meets the needs of all scholars;
  • Analyzing scholar achievement data and action plan in collaboration with staff and leadership on an ongoing basis;
  • Monitoring and tracking progress with teachers towards changes in scholar performance. Also, coaching and supporting teachers in their implementation of rigorous, cohesive, standards-aligned curriculum. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Co-intellectual preparation efforts that support teachers in internalizing unit and lesson plans in alignment with the full scope and sequence for the school year;
    • Engaging in deliberate practice to build teacher skills at executing effective instruction;
  • Observe and “real-time coach” during instruction, and provide teachers with explicit feedback on strengths and areas of growth. Provide teachers with action steps that continuously drive their skills and knowledge forward;
  • Plan and lead weekly data meetings across grade levels to identify key learning gaps and plan re-teach efforts to close those gaps;
  • Develop and lead professional development in core content areas and key teacher skills with the expectation of increasing the capacity and abilities of our teaching force;
  • Engage directly in the hiring of new staff at the school level as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Dean of Academics candidate will be:

  • An accomplished leader with 5+ years of success in the classroom;
  • Demonstrated commitment to UPrep’s mission of preparing every child for a four-year college degree and a life of opportunity;
  • Culturally competent and a self-reflective leader who understands the effects of race, class, ethnicity, income, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, and other issues of difference in society and is able to lead direct conversations about them;
  • Proven track record of implementing and/or coaching with Common Core standards-aligned curriculum in grades K-5;
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position offers a competitive starting salary of $70,000 and robust benefits including medical, dental, and retirement. More details can be provided upon request.
