Better World Ed - New York - Full time

Better World Ed (www.BetterWorldEd.org) exists to bring the practice of empathy and global literacy to youth early in life, every day, and everywhere. We create wordless videos and short stories that motivate students and teachers to learn academics through learning about new cultures and perspectives. We call this "Global SEL": Global Social & Emotional Learning. 

Timing has never been better for this role: we’ve now got a library of over 45 SEL videos (paired with 100+ stories and lesson plans) that can also help educators teach almost any Grade 1-6 math concept. Now it's time to broaden and deepen our content diversity with the strategic partnerships to grow sustainably. That's where you come in.

THE ROLE:

Operations, Sales & Culture.

  1. Operations: Support, lead, and grow our team of videographers, writers, and educators as we deepen and diversify our content offering.
  2. Sales: Engage philanthropists, foundations, social enterprises, CSR teams, and schools in supporting the creation of new Empathy Challenge stories in different regions and about different key topics. 
  3. Culture: Curiosity before judgment, humility, awareness, grit, and accountability are some of the ways of being that matter a lot to us. You're going to be supporting in growing a culture that's all about living this vision just like we're encouraging youth to. "Let's strive to practice what we preach."

You:

  • Have significant experience growing a startup in this role or a very similar role from 2-4 full time team members to 25+.
  • Support quickly-adapting environments that don't have the ideal support structure and that require autonomous, collaborative, and resilient effort.
  • Hold yourself and others accountable through clear communication and effective goal setting.
  • Have the hard conversations without (much) procrastination and take on the most important goals first, with curiosity and energy.
  • Become a humble learner again and again, every single day. You reflect with awareness and adapt with grace and humility.
  • Love unglamorous hard work. We need to know you’ve learned the value of being gritty and resilient through ups and downs.
  • Act with persistence and passion driven by a clear purpose.
  • Can sell and fundraise.

Important Notes:

This role will involve significant travel between NYC and SF, and your base could likely be either, though we have a leaning towards NYC for the coming years.

This is an early stage organization. We don't have any offices, we haven't yet raised growth capital (and we don't make much money yet), we have a small focused and scrappy team, and we're doing things a bit differently. Read more on jointheteam.betterworlded.org before applying.
