About the Position  Digital Promise Global is seeking a Technical Project Director to support the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) initiative. The Technical Project Director will work closely with other Technical Project Directors and Managers and be an integral part of the team. He/She will provide leadership and guidance to a portfolio of district and school-level education and IT leaders for the planning and implementation of a 1:1, 24-7 learning environment. He/She will also assist in the compilation and distribution of technology-related best practices across the project and with the wider education community. The Technical Project Director is a member of a collaborative team that includes professional learning and instruction-focused leaders, both in the schools that we serve and within our team.

Our Technical Project Director will work collaboratively with professional learning teams, both at VILS and in our schools. Experience in IT leadership in a K-12 school or district environment is strongly preferred. This position includes opportunities to conduct school visits and to actively partake in the development, planning, and implementation of a district’s technology vision to improve teaching and learning. This position may work out of the Digital Promise office in either Washington, DC or San Mateo , CA. If not located in either of these locations, there is the possibility of remote work.


  • Direct Support of Technology in VILs Districts (~60%)
    • Collaborate with Digital Promise staff and school leadership to develop and execute strategic plans for technology implementation.
    • Work with incoming school and district leaders on the creation and implementation of a project management plan that will address all components of technology readiness prior to rollout. Sample items include: inventory planning, mobile device management and filtering, and creation of school and district technology policies.
    • Support the overall distribution and inventory of tablets in the program, and serve as the primary point of contact for IT departments from a portfolio of schools across the program.
    • Provide direct and indirect support to a portfolio of approximately 10 districts / 50 schools in the project. This includes helping district and school leaders identify strategies and processes to resolve immediate and ongoing issues.
    • Work collaboratively with team members, including Associate Directors of Professional Learning with shared portfolios.
  • Creating Resources for Dissemination on Best Practices (~25%)
    • Prepare briefing/meeting materials and reports for funders.
    • Collaborate with Verizon Innovative Learning schools team to create resources for best practices to be shared within and beyond the project.
    • Plan and facilitate relevant meetings and convenings for district technology leaders on a monthly basis.
  • Non-IT Project Management (~15%)
    • Assist in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of incoming districts for each cohort.
    • Monitor, track and report progress on project standards for all schools in your assigned portfolio.
    • Manage project database and keep information up-to-date.


  • Baccalaureate degree required. Advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Direct professional experience working in K-12 education, preferably public school districts.
  • Experience with school technology systems, including network infrastructure, mobile device deployment and management, and web/content filtering strongly preferred.
  • Project management experience with large scope, multi-faceted projects.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with ability to anticipate challenges and plan for resolution.
  • Strong organizational skills with an impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize responsibilities independently on a daily basis, and execute effectively.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills with external and internal relationship management, with district IT leaders, school leaders and vendors.
  • Hungry, creative, self-starter, multi-tasker, team player; strong work ethic, high standards, integrity.
  • Ability to travel as required (up to 20-25%).
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions.
  • A passion for education, a team mentality, creativity, and a positive “can-do” “yes-and” spirit.

Compensation  Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
