ORGANIZATION

ACE Charter Schools is a network of public schools that has been preparing middle and high schools students in urban San Jose to be the first in their families to attend and graduate from a four-year college since 2008. ACE is committed to attracting families who have seen their children struggle profoundly in elementary school and to rekindle and inspire an optimism about school and college success for these students and families. ACE students’ academic results justify and reinforce this growing optimism, with ACE’s 8th graders outperforming their peers at top comparable schools in the state and 98% of ACE’s 2016 high school graduates completing A-G course requirements making them eligible for entry into a four-year public college.

OPPORTUNITY

The Talent Manager coordinates all staff recruitment efforts including leading organization-wide recruiting processes, expanding ACE’s online presence, deepening university partnerships, and collaborating in the development of internal teacher development programs. This person works closely across the entire organization to ensure strong collaboration, cultivate insights from diverse stakeholders, and build consensus around all hiring initiatives.

The Talent Manager is also an adept systems and process thinker, and generates reports and data to show which talent strategies are working and which are in need of development. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, has strong attention to detail, and is deeply passionate about the ACE Mission. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teacher Hiring

  • Understand the ACE model and relentlessly pursue teachers who are the right fit to work with the ACE target student
  • Maintain the diversity of the ACE staff through skilled recruiting of qualified teachers who reflect the ACE community
  • Build relationships with external partners to ensure pipeline of highly qualified teachers into all ACE Schools (universities, TFA alumni groups, etc.)
  • Develop system to identify and recruit teachers working in other contexts who would be a good fit
  • Collaborate on development of ACE Teacher residency program to train people who want to teach how to become a qualified ACE Teacher
  • Collaborate with other team members on development of ACE website, marketing materials, and other collateral (videos, pamphlets, etc.) that support staff recruitment efforts
  • Conduct initial resume screen and first round interviews of teacher candidates
  • Leverage social media and online technology platforms in marketing job opportunities and building ACE’s employer brand
  • Coordinate rigorous and equitable interview processes
  • Build and manage relationships with applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, media, and internet sites

Staff Hiring

  • Post and source candidates for all non-teaching and staff positions
  • Arrange and manage interviews by coordinating schedules, arranging travel, lodging, and meals, escorting applicant to interviews, and arranging community tours.

Systems & Metrics

  • Use data on staff and recruitment process to annually revise ACE hiring process and strategy
  • Ensure the effective set-up and use of an Applicant Tracking System to collaborate with hiring committees, communicate with applicants, and track results
  • Provide hiring analytics to senior management with recommendations for improvement
  • Analyze results of exit interviews on an annual basis and report to leadership on results and recommendations to inform future talent efforts
  • Maintain accuracy and fidelity of staffing database

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge & Skills

  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work with and influence diverse stakeholder groups
  • Exceptionally strong eye for talent in the education sector
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision making skills
  • Deep knowledge of full-cycle recruiting including sourcing and recruitment strategies, effective use of search engines and social media, interviewing and selection, marketing, and messaging
  • Knowledge of education and California curriculum
  • Experience with program development

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience with human resources, preferably with focus in recruitment or employee relations
  • 2+ years of recruiting experience
