The 0992 Systems Product Manager reports to the Deputy Head of Technology and will work cross-functionally within DoT teams and across the district to manage all aspects of defining, integrating and implementing SFUSD’s communications, collaboration, and productivity platforms. This position will oversee the management of district-wide platforms, including Google Workspace, Clever, Securly, Zoom, and others as part of holistic district-wide communications and collaboration solution. The role requires a combination of Google Workspace product knowledge, technical and analytical problem solving skills, as well as leadership and program management skills. This is a highly visible position that requires experience in product management and interactions with organizational leadership. The right candidate will bring a passion for student- and adult-learning through online environments and an acute interest in developing and supporting systems.
This is not a remote or work-from-home position and requires on-site work in San Francisco, California.
We expect our Systems Product Manager will:
Demonstrate a Leadership Mindset
- Provides general oversight, leadership, change management, and technical direction for SFUSD online systems, including scope, requirements, development, implementation, and adoption.
Manage to Results
- Ensures that solutions meet the department’s technical and quality standards.
- Leads and executes development projects to address user and technology requirements
- Scopes effort required to design and develop customized solutions
- Manages upgrades including consulting with vendors and SFUSD departments to manage the migration projects of customer content and data
- Sets, evaluates and enforces architecture, navigation, and brand strategy of technology solutions
- Develops and delivers presentations and provides metrics on all aspects of the technology solutions
- Uses Google API documentation for the purposes of brainstorming / proposing viable customization options and alternatives.
- Translates user needs into high-level product requirements and rough UI wireframes that can be interpreted by engineers.
Manage Teams
- Manages the team dedicated to support the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the district’s communication and collaboration platforms by collaborating with a cross-functional team of DoT, Communications, C&I, and subject matter expert teams and staff
- Use sprint cycles and/or agile methods to organize product delivery.
- Understands, ranks, and organizes priority of product requirements in relation to budget, timeline, and user need, and communicate these priorities to technical and non-technical team members

Manage Relationships
- Engages stakeholders across departments to gather user requirements, develop project plans, and communicate across the organization
- Works cross-functionally to set strategic direction for the SFUSD communication and collaboration platforms
- Partners with multiple functional organizations to lead the implementation of the district’s solutions, including set-up/configuration, training, support, communications, and delivery of digital content and learning
- Collaborates with and advises instructional designers and course developers on appropriate learning solutions that fit within the hardware and software infrastructure.
- Provides consulting to SFUSD stakeholders on learning needs as it relates to communication and collaboration technologies
- Establishes relationships with SFUSD stakeholders to determine requirements, expectations and issues
This is a Permanent Exempt (PEX) appointment type. Permanent Exempt, Full Time not to exceed three (3) years. This position is excluded by the Charter from competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred, preferably in computer science, management information systems, data processing, electrical engineering or a closely related field
- Three (3) years of project or product management experience
Substitution: Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year-for-year basis.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in managing or producing digital content, learning projects, including instructional design, course development, and in using technology tools in the development and delivery of learning.
- 1-3 years of experience working with online communication and collaboration platforms
- PMP, ScrumMaster, Agile, or other related certifications
- G Suite Admin Certification and at least one year of admin experience of a G Suite domain, including management of Chrome OS and Android devices.
- Google Educator Levels 1 & 2 certifications
- Basic familiarity with what’s possible in web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JS) and APIs.
- Knowledge of Chrome Extensions and Google Drive Add-ons a plus
- Experience using Google Vault and Google’s Investigation tool.
