Supervisor of Computer Science

The job of Supervisor of Computer Science includes, but is not limited to:

  • Provide leadership for continuous improvement of the district’s computer science programs and services to support the district goals of access, equity, and excellence for all students, in support of Vision 2025 and the Graduate Profile
  • Develop and continuously improve a coherent PK-12 computer science curriculum
  • Work with site and central leaders to implement the computer science curriculum and board policy, to increase the quantity and quality of computer science education experienced by SFUSD students, and to develop a shared vision for effective teaching of computer science
  • Coordinate with computer science teachers across all elementary, middle, and high schools to ensure alignment of rigorous, standards-based, sequential computer science learning in support of the district’s Graduate Profile
  • Direct and support professional development for computer science educators
  • Recruit, hire, develop, support, and supervise a team of computer science content specialists(teachers on special assignment), including a cadre of itinerant teacher specialists supporting high potential schools
  • Collect and analyze data to track student participation and achievement in computer science
  • Coordinate and help define the work of outside partners to ensure that all work aligns with the district vision and its goals for coherence
  • Support computer science instruction so that success cannot be predicted by race, gender,socio-economic status, and other demographic factors


  • Possession of a valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • 3+ years experience as a public school, district, county office administrator, or equivalent experience


  • Experience with credentialed teacher supervision and evaluation
  • Strong content knowledge of computer science and the ability to apply it to teaching and learning across grades PK-12
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge of effective teaching practices in computer science education
  • Solid understanding of the expectations of the California K-12 Computer Science Standards and/or Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) K-12 Computer Science Standards
  • Experience in educational issues as they relate to PK-12 computer science education.
  • Experience with developing and implementing curriculum for computer science education
  • Knowledge of and successful experience with the design and implementation of professional development for administrators and teachers
  • Knowledge of how to evaluate departmental programs
  • Ability to use student, school, and community data to assess professional learning needs
  • Comfort with fiscal and budgetary administration
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, apply, and direct research to curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to manage relationships with external partners
  • Knowledge of national and state-wide initiatives in PK-12 computer science education
  • Ability to address access and equity issues with a variety of individuals and groups
  • Bilingualism / biliteracy.
