What You'll Do:

The SME Mathematics will be a key member of the team that builds industry-leading high-quality print and digital mathematics content for Discovery Education products. Discovery Education currently offers Math TechbookTM, an award-winning digital textbook for the middle grades and high school. Primarily, the SME Mathematics will develop and improve content that currently appears in the secondary school courses, as well as help to set the vision and create content for a future elementary curriculum. The ideal candidate will employ knowledge and understanding of sound mathematical reasoning, current research, and effective pedagogical practices for elementary and secondary school instruction, with the intent of ensuring that Discovery Education offers services of the highest educational quality. The SME will collaborate closely with the other members of the Digital Instruction Group and independent contractors to develop digital products and services that meet the educational and business needs of the company. As necessary, the SME Mathematics will also provide support to the partnerships and implementation teams to assist with state adoptions, requests for proposal, and sales. The preferred candidate will have a degree in mathematics or mathematics education, experience teaching mathematics in K-12, and experience developing curriculum; an ideal candidate will have served as a coach or specialist.

Ensure the alignment of products and curriculum to national, state, and district standards.

  • Facilitate the development, quality assurance, production, and writing of mathematics content for inclusion in DE products.
  • Collaborate with other members of the content, product development, and systems engineering teams to support current research-based practices in mathematics instruction and digital learning environments.
  • Build collaborative relationships with independent contractors and vendors to ensure adherence to DE standards for quality and to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Develop content and assessment items for students that align with the vision of the Discovery Education program.
  • Develop support materials for math state curriculum adoption processes.
  • Troubleshoot and assist with ongoing school support for current Discovery Education product users related to mathematics content within the Discovery Education online platform.
  • Continue to improve mathematics and pedagogical knowledge and skills through researching trends and sharing professional knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Discovery Education corporate partnership teams to develop standards-based content which extend learning for students outside of the classroom.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, math education, or an equivalent combination of skills, training, and experience is required
  • 3+ years’ experience in mathematics curriculum development
  • 3+ years’ experience with professional learning related to state and national mathematics standards
  • Knowledge and experience in digital and blended instruction
  • Experience in the development and publishing of digital education materials or products specific to mathematics
  • Must have legal right to work in the United States
