Student Information Systems Manager

LEARN Charter School Network - Chicago, Illinois - Full time

LEARN Charter School Network is seeking an Student Information Systems Manager with experience in PowerSchool to manage our SIS and related systems. This growth-oriented position is focused not only on ensuring our SIS operates efficiently, but also on improving our data collections and governance procedures, providing feedback to and coordinating trainings for end users, and working with our Data Analyst to automate common processes. We want our systems and users to work smarter, not for you to work harder.

PURPOSE: Provide technical expertise and project coordination across software applications to assist with data management for network compliance and operational purposes. Manage compliance and the infrastructure for our information reporting systems (i.e. attendance, discipline, compliance, grants info) with a level of expertise in IT and the applications used to manage these systems. This person works serving/maintaining systems associated with Compliance, Teaching & Learning and Technical and Operations Support teams. Standardize data entry/coding procedures for PowerSchool users across the LEARN network. Coordinate training and professional development opportunities that empower SIS users to complete tasks within PowerSchool and related systems with minimal supervision.


Attendance, Discipline, and Enrollment Compliance:

  • Creates and maintains accurate attendance and enrollment data for the Network on an ongoing basis.
  • Creates and produces weekly attendance reports and audits to ensure proper SQRP information and 20th day counts for enrollment in Aspen and PowerSchool.
  • Work with Compliance Manager, Enrollment Manager and other stakeholders on enrollment and lottery implementation.
  • Understand the business process and support the business with those processes using network or authorizer applications.
  • Ensure all employees have the required level of access to SIS to log attendance, grades, discipline, and other data.
  • Create and run reports to review discipline records every month by school and network.
  • In coordination with internal stakeholders and external reporting agencies, ensure accuracy of all records in SIS.

School Rosters and Schedules:

  • Produces accurate rosters for schools. (i.e. teachers matched to students).
  • Develops accurate school schedules in PowerSchool.

Report Cards:

  • Maintain and update report card templates.
  • Create report card timeline cycle and tasks to ensure that report cards are setup for schools with comments and gradebook setup.
  • Compile Report Cards throughout the school year.
  • Create a timeline for reports to be updated and printed
  • Provide directions to principals to prepare for report card compilation and address follow-up questions.

Systems Administration:

  • PowerSchool and Aspen
    • Lead ASPEN implementation serving as a network liaison to CPS.
    • Act as the liaison to the user community for supporting business both internal applications and those mandated by district or state authorizers.
    • Act as the in-house subject matter expert for the PowerSchool, PowerTeacher, ASPEN, SIS systems – providing timely support with application usage challenges.
    • Train teachers, principals, office managers, and other staff on the use of the PowerSchool systems.
    • In coordination with our Data Analyst, develop exports, reports, templates and execute on related activities in the PowerSchool systems.
    • Understand the business process and support the business with those processes using network or authorizer applications.
    • Suggest and implement revisions to business processes to increase efficiency.
    • Assist the user support team with activities related to business applications.
    • Ensuring that the data is updated and clean in the systems.
    • Develop documentation and training material for the business systems.
  • Security - Ensure that when transitions from the network that they are being locked out of applications available to LEARN employees – e.g. LEARN employees that leave at the end of the school year and ensure compliance with student privacy.

Other duties including but Not limited to:

  • Provide Support for student testing (MAP, PARCC, Other).
  • Participate on the committee for revision of the family handbook.
  • Enter suspension data and provide assistance on suspension procedures to the Director of Student Support Services and Principals.
  • Develop documentation and training material for the business systems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training and/or Experience

  1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  2. 3 or more years of experience supporting PowerSchool and PowerTeacher systems
  3. 3 or more years of experience with user application support / help desk support
