About 100Kin10

100Kin10 unites 280 of the nation’s top academic institutions, nonprofits, foundations, companies, and government agencies to address the nation’s STEM teacher shortage. Together, we are tackling the systemic challenges to getting and keeping great STEM teachers in classrooms nationwide.

In our first five years, we secured commitments for 100,000 excellent STEM teachers by 2021 and built a highly engaged, collaborative network of partner organizations immersed in collective problem-solving and shared learning and willing to be vulnerable and trusting with old and new allies alike. In the fall of 2017, we publicly launched the grand challenges, an unprecedented system map showing the 100 root causes of our nation’s STEM teacher challenges. We are now mobilizing our partners and the broader field to address the grand challenges.

People who thrive at 100Kin10 are team-oriented, open-minded, creative, and flexible, and possess a strong desire to learn and grow in a feedback-rich environment. Our culture embraces colleagues with genuine warmth, a curiosity to learn, a drive toward excellence, the ability to laugh at themselves, an eagerness for feedback to spur growth and impact, and an interest in co-workers as colleagues and as human beings.

About the Strategic Initiatives Team

The Strategic Initiatives Team leads 100Kin10's learning and innovation efforts to catalyze our partners to address the grand challenges. We do so by running experiments that infuse six core elements of change into 100Kin10’s networked impact approach ( and, in so doing, help us answer key questions, including: how to help partners take up the element(s); when an element is more, or less, important; if and how multiple of them intersect; what additional elements we need to consider to get to change; what contexts enable or detract from an element’s impact; and which actors are especially critical to an element’s impact. The “change elements” build on 100Kin10’s expertise and experience to date making impact through our network, as well as deep research and study around change, innovation, systems, and mobilization.

To support this work and the broader work of the network, the Strategic Initiatives Team will contribute to building and sustaining the stamina and will for change across 100Kin10 partners and the field by:

  • Raising up emerging ideas and trends across the STEM education, social innovation, and systems change sectors to guide the work.
  • Measuring progress both (a) broadly against the grand challenges via a set of user-friendly, non-traditional indicators that point to a “healthy” STEM teaching sector, and (b) specifically against the catalyst challenges via targeted metrics.
  • Pointing to specific examples of how our partners and the network are successfully making inroads against the grand challenges.
