The Strategic Marketing Analyst helps Duke’s schools and departments explore opportunities for new online courses, programs, certificates and/or degrees. S/He researches program demand, studies new markets, and makes recommendations to leadership about the direction of Duke’s online learning strategy. This is a 2 Year Term Appointment.


  • •Understands demand and creates marketing strategies for online and hybrid learning programs. Utilizes market data, labor demand, competitor data, and trend data to advise on which programs we should build, and how we should marketthem.
  • •Collects and analyzes data to inform Duke’s decisions about online programs and degrees (e.g. data on prospective students, employer trends, peer institution offerings,etc.).
  • •Synthesizes research and recommends marketing strategies based on those findings and Duke’sgoals.
  • •Consults with Duke faculty and administrators about market researchneeds, methodologies andfindings.
  • •Consolidates data and analysis into actionable items, reports, andpresentations.
  • •Follows market trends and peer institution marketing efforts to help Duke identify and implement bestpractices.
  • •Identifies and understands Duke’s program, school and/or department objectives and integrates those goals with demanddata.
  • •Performs other duties asassigned.

Required: B.A./B.S. in economics, statistics, business, marketing or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred: MBA or related terminal degree



  • •At least three years in strategic marketing, brand management, or marketresearch
  • •Demonstrated ability to generate and implement a marketing strategy for a programor organization
  • •Ability to interpret large amounts of data for a variety of audiences (faculty, Duke administration, online staff,etc.)
  • •Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communicationskills
  • •Expertise in developing an online marketing strategy, performing web analytics, and using associatedtools
  • •Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimalsupervision
  • •Ability to work independently and as a member of ateam
  • •Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customerservices


  • •Prior experience working in higher education; strong familiarity or experience with trends in educational technology, emerging online education models, and issues in higher education
  • •Experience with marketing analytics, marketing automation (email marketing, etc), and inboundmarketing
  • •Knowledge of statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, or similar) anddatabases
  • •Knowledge of major third-party suppliers of syndicated data andservices

  • •Attendance at occasional events outside of normal workhours

Salary and Benefits

Salary dependent on qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package includes 15 days vacation, 13 holidays, 12 days sick leave; health, dental, disability and life insurance and support for professional development and training.
