Strategic Communications Manager

Branching Minds - Remote - Full time

The Strategic Communications Manager is responsible for building, maintaining, and protecting Branching Minds public brand image. The core focus of this position is developing compelling story angles that will drive national media exposure, promote corporate goodwill, support business development efforts, and amplify thought leadership.

As an integral member of the marketing team, you will report to the Director of Marketing -- and will work with key teams across Branching Minds to develop content and secure high-impact placements. You will also be responsible for drafting content for various communications channels, including blogs, op-Ed’s, website, social media and presentations. This position will develop and execute a strategic communications plan that advances Branching Minds’ brand identity and achieves the major objectives outlined above. You will also be responsible for responding to reactive opportunities and fielding press inquiries.

  • Drive Branching Minds media coverage by identifying proactive story angles and pitching media daily to secure consistent press across enterprise, vertical, and specialized publications
  • Develop and review thought leadership content in the form of blogs and bylines
  • Support the executives of the organization in building their brand, and sharing their expertise.
  • Organize media interviews, create executive media briefs, and talking points to ensure consistent message delivery in the press
  • Support industry speaking and award submissions to highlight Branching Minds’ platform, innovation, industry expertise, and thought leadership
  • Support product announcements and strategic joint partner initiatives with creative and comprehensive press activities (working with partnerships)
  • Work closely with the rest of the marketing team and the SMEs for developing the right topics and solicit their expertise to pitch ideas and content to the media
  • Monitor news across media channels to stay ahead of the curve on breaking industry stories, and identify potential media opportunities for Branching Minds
  • Create, maintain and expand media database to build new reporter relationships
  • Develop new media formats and engagement models with key editors to help drive brand awareness and favorability (webinars, podcast or live conversation)
  • Strengthen relationships with edtech partners, superstar customers, and other advocacy groups; proactively, and in collaboration with the Chief Strategic Partnerships Officer, identify opportunities for BRM to support and amplify the work of partners
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the company to ensure holistic, impactful messaging across diverse platforms, including use of data to drive decision-making
  • Determine KPIs for the strategic communications role
  • Measure and provide reports on each communications campaign

RequirementsIDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this role possesses strong media relations and storytelling skills, and great knowledge of the k-12 space. This individual is a “people-person” with a collaborative spirit, and an extraordinary ability to build connections has a degree of journalism or in-agency PR experience or experience in edtech communication, and is looking to bring their skill set to an ed-tech start-up environment.

  • Strong communications skills
  • Exceptional writing, editing and project management skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and across complex cross-group organizations
  • Experience in PR or communications
  • A creative mind and ability to think differently to drive results
  • Savviness in social media platforms

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience in education and knowledge of the basics of MTSS/RTI/PBIS
  • Experience with social listening
  • Experience with SEO tools (SEMrush)
