High School Director in Residence

The STEM Prep High School Director in Residence will step into the role of STEM Prep High School Director in 2020-2021. During 2019-2020, the Director in Residence will prepare to take over all leadership roles and responsibilities. S/he will work hand-in-hand with the current School Director to deeply learn the mission of our organization and support the work of the High School leadership team. S/he will gradually assume responsibility over the course of the year such that at the culmination of 2019-2020, they will be ready to assume complete School Director responsibilities, including:

  • Drive academic excellence/student performance
    • Set and own the academic and cultural vision for the Middle School
      • Design and lead weekly staff professional development
    • Create, maintain, and regularly revise systems and processes to drive student achievement.
      • Met or exceed agreed upon goals set for increasing student performance.
    • Lead the school to outperform other public schools in our community.
  • Lead the educational program
    • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of effective curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices to close the achievement gap.
    • Ensure that the school uses performance data to drive decision-making.
    • Ensure that all teachers and leaders regularly use assessment data to meet individual student needs and make daily instructional decisions.
    • Ensure that the school’s special student populations are making progress equal to those students in its regular education program.
    • Ensure the school meets and is in compliance with all state assessment rules and regulations.
  • Develop and lead staff
    • Staff culture: Create a staff culture and work environment in which highly effective staff members are actively engaged and feel connected to the organization and its mission.
    • Professional Development: Develop, maintain, and regularly review and revise systems and practices that improve staff ability to increase student achievement.
    • Staff retention: Successfully retains top performers. Creates an environment where staff is committed to a long tenure and would recommend working at the school to others.
  • Cultivate a culture of excellence and care
    • Make the school a place where staff and students are all committed to excellence and believe that hard work is the key to achieving it.
    • Create and maintain a culture that promotes student achievement and college preparation for all students.
    • Create and maintain a school culture that promotes care through meaningful relationships and connectedness between and among students, staff, and families.
    • Demonstrate commitment to competent communication and conflict resolution.
    • Consistently evaluate and proactively improve people, processes, programs, and services for greater effectiveness, efficiency and value.
  • Lead student culture, exemplifying care and investment in all students, and oversee the school-wide positive behavioral support program and practices to cultivate a student culture of excellence undergirded by the organization’s mission and core values.
    • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of effective PBS systems and practices that support a culture of excellence, growth, and care.
    • Ensure that the school uses performance data to drive decision-making and the continuous improvement of student culture systems and practices.
    • Ensure all staff regularly use student behavior data in enacting best practices that meet individual student needs, as well as the student body at-large.
  • Build and maintain family satisfaction
    • Provide indication of a high level of parent satisfaction with the organization as evidenced by feedback and low student attrition rates.
    • Listen and respond respectfully to the range of concerns expressed by various constituents.
  • Partners with the leadership teams, staff, and faculty
    • Ensure an effective flow of critical information between and among leaders, staff, teachers and students.
    • Work closely with leaders to keep all parties fully informed on all important aspects of the status and development of the academic program to ensure transparent and effective oversight of the organization as a whole.
    • Collaborate with members of senior staff to bolster quality of programming and ensure continuous improvement of the academic program and organization as a whole.
  • Facilities and spaces
    • Oversee necessary facilities planning and makes recommendations to the network team.
    • The organization’s physical environment (buildings and grounds) is well cared for, sanitary, and promotes health and safety.
