About Sumdog

Sumdog is an online games-based math, spelling & grammar practice service used by millions of students worldwide.

We're at the forefront of an exciting edtech revolution helping to solve the challenges arising during the pandemic and in the longer term helping to narrow the achievement gap.

We capture a detailed understanding of each child's strengths, and use this to deliver tailored mastery learning. The results are spectacular. Our research found students using Sumdog for 30 minutes weekly made much faster progress than those using it less.

For many, this makes us the perfect employer. The work we do is challenging - but also rewarding and valuable.

Job Description

Sumdog Math is currently being used by around 10% of elementary schools. With the recent focus on hybrid learning for students, we want to ensure that the platform can be used seamlessly alongside teachers' own lessons plans to provide students with engaging math practice aligned perfectly to the state standards.

Sumdog is looking for an educator to develop our math standards across multiple states.

As part of the Curricula Team at Sumdog, you will lead a full review and re-structure of the math content for Common Core, informed by your own teaching experience and that of external education experts. In areas where our Standard coverage needs to be enhanced, you will develop a roadmap of content improvements, and oversee its implementation by working alongside math question writers, and our software engineering teams.

Once the processes for the Common Core has started, you will also extend this full review to other state standards with the help of educational experts in those states. This is an excellent opportunity to use your knowledge of the math standards to provide support to students across the US.

Main responsibilities

  • Self-managing your development of a thorough knowledge of the current Sumdog math content, with support from the current Curricula Team;
  • Structuring our existing math content to align perfectly with the US math standards
  • Onboarding and managing external consultants to review our standards content;
  • Managing and prioritising tasks to develop, and oversee the implementation of, a roadmap of standards improvements.

Knowledge, skills and experience needed

Essential

  • Experience of teaching math in US elementary schools;
  • A thorough understanding of the Common Core Math Standards
  • The technical confidence to learn to use our standards-building website tools;
  • A very good understanding of data manipulation in Google Sheets or Excel;
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills;
  • An interest in the use of EdTech to teach math;
  • A commitment to our company mission and values.

Desirable

  • Experience of developing math lessons or schemes of work;
  • Experience using Sumdog in the classroom;
  • Experience of developing online content for EdTech;
