About the Team

The Finance & Accounting Team is responsible for the financial well­being of the organization. This includes supporting the short and long­term planning/forecasting cycles, providing accurate and timely reporting for decision support, as well as, ensuring that we account for all transactions in accordance with GAAP and in a manner that supports required grant reporting. We collaborate cross functionally to ensure that the that the organization meets its financial goals which will enable it to fulfill its mission of transforming education.

About the Role

New Classrooms is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing Finance team. The Staff Accountant will provide key support in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, and process improvement. We are seeking someone who enjoys an entrepreneurial environment and shares our passion for reimagining education.

What You Would Do

  • Process and record accounts payable transactions ensuring that all bills and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures
  • Process and record cash receipts, revenue and receivables
  • Prepare and record program fees invoices
  • Prepare general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including cash accounts, accruals and prepaid expenses
  • Enter standard and general journal entries as appropriate
  • Review and process expense reports and receipts submitted ensuring compliance with travel policy and coding accuracy
  • Train new staff on the expense reimbursement application software
  • Review and process debit card transactions ensuring coding accuracy and supporting documentation
  • Maintain vendor and customer files
  • Assist with financial audit and 990 preparation
  • Organize and maintain filing systems for financial supporting documentation
  • Assist with standard and ad hoc financial reports for various stakeholders
  • Other administrative support to the Finance Team

What we are looking for

  • BA in Accounting, Finance or Business required
  • Familiarity with general accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to keep up with a busy and diverse task list
  • Comfort working in a highly collaborative and entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to work easily with people at all levels of the organization
  • Team player with willingness and eagerness to help
  • Self-starter able to work independently and under direction
