Sr. Software Engineer

Position Overview

We at Illuminate Education are looking for a seasoned Software Engineer to join our growing team. We have one of the best SaaS solutions for the K-12 education field and are looking to make it better with your help. You’ll be expected to align teams, mentor engineers, and participate in technical discussions to help make sure we're building the right solutions with appropriately sized milestones. If you are self-motivated with a passion for development, then we want you to help achieve our mission of promoting student and student educator success. This role is for a full-stack developer, though most of the work is focused on the back-end of the application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and install software solutions.
  • Develop software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes.
  • Mentor engineering colleagues and provide escalation help when necessary.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
  • Use expertise and familiarity to investigate problem areas, and subsequently report findings.
  • Own the software development lifecycle.
  • Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
  • Improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize development and service issues for Engineer Managers.
  • Work both independently and in a team environment, and be able to deliver under tight deadlines.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of PHP or 2+ years of GO experience.
  • 7+ years experience with SQL and constructing relational SQL databases.
  • Experience in leadership or mentorship of engineers.
  • Experience with modern PHP Frameworks (Zend, Symfony, etc).
  • Experience working with Linux server environments.
  • Working knowledge of Javascript, jQuery, CSS, and HTML.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub as a version control tool.
  • Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and other cloud-oriented technology a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or mathematics.
  • Ability to speak in front of upper management about processes or needed improvements.
