Sr. Learning Designer, ELA (PC)

The Senior Learning Designer, ELA K-5 (Progressive Core) supports mathematics strategy through prototyping, guidelines, and monitoring/supporting quality of elementary ELA offerings across the company. The Senior Learning Designer helps to research and develop Edmentum’s ways for incorporating an instructional approach to whole-child learning across curriculum, platform, and professional development under the leadership of the Director, Learning Design and VP Learning Design. The Senior Learning Designer, ELA K-5 is responsible for supporting the Director, Learning Design, ELA/SS and guiding learning design through collaboration with internal teams and external partners and freelancers. In addition, the position is responsible for supporting the organization in defining and developing detailed plans for the development of a progressive core elementary ELA product.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Support the company in achieving excellence in ELA learning design, making incremental changes in ELA content learning design and in conceptualizing future programs.
  • Under the guidance of the Director of Learning Design, ELA/SS lead the definition of an ELA progressive core program at the elementary grades and contribute at the secondary grades by creating detailed component plans for transforming Edmentum’s products into viable Tier 1 products that align with the company’s progressive core pedagogic vision.
  • Demonstrated track record in productizing educational research in thoughtful and innovative ways.
  • Collaborate with the research department on understanding key ELA research and introducing new research that enhances Edmentum’s instructional thinking, understanding how both scientifically based research and best practices authorship impact market direction and student outcomes.
  • Ability to achieve results through influence across an organization and collaboration with other departments.
  • Represent the needs of the teacher, the learner, and the administrator in product discussions involving mathematics.
  • Understand and apply effective classroom practice to high-quality learning design in ELA and in other areas as assigned. Apply variety of implementation models to Core and Tier 1 instruction.
  • Partner with Director, Learning Design, on proof of concept creation to represent incremental improvement with respect to research and best practices, considering platform capabilities and future builds.
  • Support the Content Design team in creating ELA content by writing prototypes, providing guidelines, and reviewing key sample content.
  • Participate in focus groups, customer interviews, field tests, and site visits that explore direction in the ELA market and that respond to product concepts and prototypes.
  • Collaborate with Content Design, Research and Learning Engineering, Product Management, Platform Development, and UI/UX on supporting and implementing ELA learning design initiatives—particularly the progressive core initiative.
  • Interface with ELA academic experts and investigate how to implement their feedback.
  • Represent program in writing and in presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Meet all goals of quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, learning science, instructional technology, or another education-related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in ELA classroom teaching, education, and instructional design at the elementary level
  • 3+ years of experience in working on the planning and implementation of core programs or progressive core programs in educational technology
  • Experience in a variety of innovative instructional modalities and design approaches including game-based learning, reality-based learning (AR, VR, MR), project-based learning, and others
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that support mentoring and delegation practices
  • In-depth understanding of pedagogical practices in elementary and/or secondary education
  • Knowledge and experience with UDL and accessibility
  • Exceptional writing, editing, communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
  • Careful attention to detail
