Sr. Learning Designer, ELA

The Senior Learning Designer, ELA supports ELA strategy through prototyping, guideline development, and monitoring/supporting the quality of ELA offerings across the company. The Senior Learning Designer helps to research and develop Edmentum’s instructional approach to whole-child learning across curriculum, platform, and professional development under the leadership of the Director of Learning Design, ELA and the VP of Learning Design. The Senior Learning Designer, ELA is responsible for supporting the Director of Learning Design, ELA, and guiding learning design through collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and freelancers.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Support the company in achieving excellence in ELA learning design, making incremental changes in content learning design, and in conceptualizing future programs.
  • Represent the needs of the teacher, the learner, and the administrator in product discussions involving ELA and literacy.
  • Apply effective classroom practice to high-quality learning design in ELA and in other areas as assigned. Apply a variety of implementation models to Core and Tier 1 instruction.
  • Partner with the Director of Learning Design, ELA on prototype creation to represent incremental improvement with respect to research and best practices, considering platform capabilities and future builds.
  • Support the Content Development team in creating ELA content by writing prototypes, providing guidelines, and reviewing key sample content.
  • Collaborate with the research department on understanding key literacy research and introducing new research that enhances Edmentum’s instructional thinking, understanding of how both scientifically based research and best practices authorship impact market direction, and student outcomes.
  • Participate in focus groups, customer interviews, field tests, and site visits that explore direction in the ELA market and that respond to product concepts and prototypes.
  • Collaborate with Content Development, Research, Product Management, Platform Development, and UI/UX on supporting and implementing ELA learning design initiatives.
  • Interface with ELA and literacy academic experts and investigate how to implement their feedback.
  • Represent program in writing and in presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Meet all goals of quality, schedule, and budget.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, learning science, EdTech, or another education-related field preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in ELA classroom teaching, education, and curriculum design.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogy surrounding emergent/beginning literacy and foundational skills development.
  • Highly creative with strong design and technical skills.
  • 3+ years experience creating the learning design of commercial product in educational technology.
  • Demonstrated track record in productizing educational research in thoughtful and innovative ways.
  • Ability to achieve results through influence across an organization and collaboration with other departments.
  • Experience with a variety of innovative instructional modalities and design approaches including game-based learning, reality-based learning (AR, VR, MR), project-based learning, and others.
  • Knowledge and experience with UDL and accessibility.
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written, and business) to function effectively in a leadership role with internal and external clients and liaise with national education experts.
  • High levels of collaboration and cross-functional skills and experience.
