The Lindner College of Business (LCB) at the University of Cincinnati is at an exciting inflection point on the path to preeminence. LCB is currently seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to help advance teaching excellence and innovation across the college. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Innovation and New Ventures, the position will be responsible for assisting faculty to effectively integrate innovative pedagogy (including digital technologies) into traditional and online learning environments. In addition, the position will be responsible for assisting in the development of assessment tools to gauge the effectiveness of teaching strategies on student learning outcomes and the physical learning environment. The position will work to provide faculty and staff instructional design related professional development opportunities. The Senior Instructional Designer will be a key ambassador for LCB in the college, the University and in relevant professional associations to ensure the College is on the cutting-edge of teaching excellence.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Associate Dean for Innovation and New Ventures and working closely with Associate Dean for Online Learning to create and elevate a culture of educational excellence by piloting new teaching approaches and scaling them
  • Collaborate with LCB faculty, staff, and leadership to integrate technology and develop instructional innovations in learning environments across the college (on campus and online)
  • Consult, train, and serve as a resource to faculty and instructional staff to design, develop, evaluate, and revise teaching methods, learning outcomes, program curriculum, and assessment strategies
  • Manage workflow processes related to instructional design support and development
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging and “Best Practices” in instructional technologies
  • Participate and assist faculty with Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) research
  • Work to integrate, leverage, and partner with central support services and applications from the University of Cincinnati e-learning ecosystem (e.g., Canopy) and the Lindner College of Business
  • Create and maintain documentation for processes, policies, and procedures related to instructional design and partner with the UC Center for Enhancement of Teaching and Learning
  • Serves on LCB teaching committees and other appropriate University committees focused on teaching excellence as well as represent LCB at various conferences focused on teaching
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Bachelor's with three (3) years of experience. Degree must be Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Learning, Curriculum and Instruction or other related field; experience must include online/blended course design, curriculum development, faculty development or other related area.
  • Must be proficient in various technologies used in the instructional design and assessment process such as Learning Management Systems (Blackboard) and include some knowledge of website design, Flash, Java Script, MS office suite, social media networking.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following:

  • Advanced understanding of learning theories and instructional methods specific to the higher education environment
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • 5+ years of management and supervision of collaborative teams
  • Superior knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design, development, and evaluation of instructional programs, methods, materials, and instruments
  • Superior knowledge of research and development of learning environments, classroom assessment techniques, and faculty development principles and applications
  • Ability & experience designing, developing, and evaluating instructional materials and programs
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently
  • Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization
  • Customer-service orientation, attention to detail, and creativity in problem solving
  • Excellent oral, written presentation communication skills
  • Superior knowledge and experience working with learning management systems
  • Expertise in working with cutting-edge technologies for teaching, learning, and video production
  • Professional association membership and leadership in relevant groups (e.g. The POD Network, Educause, Quality Matters, Online Learning Consortium)
  • Passion for shaping the future of business education and contributing to a culture of collaborative excellence and innovation
