Job Description:

The Instructional Design & New Media team in EdPlus at ASU provides instructional design and media development support for ASU Online and Continuing and Professional Education courses and programs, as well as a variety of special projects. Each year the 30-person team of Instructional Designers, Media Developers, Academic Technologists and others, work on 1,000+ course projects in 100+ fully online programs and designs and delivers approximately 70 workshops and webinars for university faculty.

We are seeking a highly-motivated Sr Director, Instructional Design and New Media to join our high-performing team . This position provides leadership support through planning, leading and directing the Instructional Design & New Media unit and associated projects, initiatives and operations, including strategic planning, coordinating complex projects and implementation, overseeing operations/administration and the overall delivery of services.

Essential Duties:

  • Directs the overall development, administration and evaluation of the Instructional Design & New Media unit and associated projects within EdPlus, establishing policies and procedures to ensure consistency of operations and/or implementation.
  • Identifies best practices throughout Instructional Design & New Media and associated projects within EdPlus and communicates/implements these practices.
  • Remains current on and evaluates emerging technologies that have potential value for online teaching and learning.
  • Assists the EdPlus Chief Operating Officer in creating strategies and business services plans; provides overall management, technical and financial direction for Instructional Design & New Media and associated projects in conjunction with EdPlus initiatives and goals.
  • Oversees and initiates appropriate personnel management activities such as hiring, training and evaluation of staff for Instructional Design & New Media within EdPlus.
  • Works closely and in conjunction with EdPlus leadership to lead the creation, communication and dissemination of business goals and vision throughout EdPlus and the university.
  • Works closely with the EdPlus Chief Operating Officer to develop short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans to ensure forecasted needs are appropriately anticipated.
  • Directs activities of assigned group(s) to ensure optimum performance of the group/function; works closely and in conjunction with administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Assists the EdPlus Chief Operating Officer and other leadership in developing and recommending budgets and authorize expenditures.
  • Resolves problems and issues affecting EdPlus and assists in directing measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Instructional Design & New Media and EdPlus.
  • Represents EdPlus and serves on various EdPlus and university committees.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in a related field AND ten (10) years of related experience which includes five (5) years of management/supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Working Environment:

    Our offices are located in ASU SkySong, a dynamic center for innovation - home to both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.

    Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
