JOB OBJECTIVE:The Sr. Director, Content and Curriculum Strategy for PBS Education leads the development and delivery of effective tools, content, and media for the classroom, with a focus on educators of students in grades Pre-K-3rd.The position is responsible for strategic and operational planning for PBS Education and its digital properties (including LearningMedia products and services), securing essential acquisitions, developing content and curriculum that leverage PBS and PBS KIDS properties and new technologies, and expanding PBS Education’s impact on teacher effectiveness, especially in the early learning space. The tools and content are delivered in partnership with local public television stations across the country. Critical to this person’s success will be a strong grasp of how teachers are consuming and delivering content in the classroom today, where they go to find content, and innovative strategies that PBS Education can deploy to reach teachers where they are.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Set overall strategy for content and curriculum development for PBS’ education initiatives – with a focus on expanding PBS’ reach into Pre-K through third grade classrooms and leveraging existing PBS and PBS KIDS content.
  • Develop ground-breaking content for educators and children that builds on PBS’ reputation as a media innovator and trusted educational brand, meet critical needs and deliver educational impact, including but not limited to PBS LearningMedia.
  • Serve as a senior member and thought leader on the Education team, including providing strategic counsel to the VP of Education.
  • Design and implement a process that engages teachers in ideating, validating and testing new content and curricular approaches.
  • Lead the design and delivery of turnkey user experiences for educators and learners that curates and leverages PBS and PBS KIDS educational content.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including PBS member stations) to ensure that content, tools and services are aligned with strategic goals, utilize shared processes across PBS, Children’s Media & Education, support station needs, and deliver on financial efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement content and roadmap for all content, curriculum, tools and services, ensuring key stakeholders are working to achieve core goals and deliverables.
  • Lead and manage dedicated team of content producers, curriculum developers, tech leads, including responsibility for performance management and professional development.
  • Act as a thought leader in Pre-K-3rd content and curriculum.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Significant experience in the education space with a demonstrated passion for teachers and a deep understanding of the challenges they face
    • Past experience as a teacher and in early childhood education strongly preferred
  • Experience with content design and product development of digital education services for the education market
  • Strong knowledge of research and trends in education, including emerging best practices in child development and education research about content and pedagogy, and best practices in classroom digital integration
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuing excellent customer service for end users and stakeholders
  • Experience in creating websites, services and/or mobile applications for Pre-K-12 classrooms and education audiences
  • Experience project managing web-based initiatives, including editorial management
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Partnership cultivation, care and development
  • Demonstrated experience concepting and creating new digital content, products, and services


  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters in Education or related field preferred.


  • Strong grasp of the needs of education administrators, teachers and students, and the ability of digital content and service providers to support innovative, research-based learning
  • Interested in and knowledgeable about current education digital product platforms and uses
  • Understanding of technical operations of web and/or digital delivered products
  • Strong background in writing and editing instructional materials, especially for Pre-K-3rd educators
  • Strong awareness of the organizations and resources available to educators
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superior leadership skills, with the ability to positively influence others
  • Resourceful, self-directed and skillful team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
